Barnyard Gone Wrong

I don ‘t know if anyone recalls the group Barefoot Jerry with Russ Hicks on steel or the group Area Code 615 with Weldon Myrick on steel. The music was definitely fun music and this album reminds me of the albums put out by both of those groups. There is definitely a Bluegrass foundation the music being played but you can also hear some jazz, some blues and some psychedelic underpinnings. The Musicians are not just sidemen but they are also soloist. The steel player is Mark Van Allen who hails from the Atlanta, Georgia area. Mark does a great job on the album and does a great version of Wichita Lineman.

Sonny holds the distinction of being another one of the great steel players that helped the instrument evolve. He was without a doubt a major component of the George Jones' Band (The Jones Boys) both on the road and in the studio from 1964 to 1969. The Jones Boys was a launching pad for many a great artist like Johnny Paycheck (Donny Young) and lead guitar player Gary Adams. Then in 1975 Sonny went with Tammy Wynette after her divorce from George Jones and played with her until 1980.
